Birthday of Swedish King

King Carl Gustaf of Sweden celebrated his 68th birthday today with a military parade at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. The King and his son, Prince Carl Philip, attended the event in military uniform.

Members of the Swedish royal family watched the ceremony from a balcony above the courtyard. Little Princess Estelle was the only family member in a headpiece, wearing one of her signature (and oh-so adorable) head bows.

Happy Birthday, Your Majesty!

British Royals on Second Day of Welsh Trip

For the second day of her and the Duke of Edinburgh’s trip to Wales, Queen Elizabeth repeated one of her wrapped crown hats. This one, in pale pink straw, follows the general shape of a cloche but is wrapped in a diagonal band around the crown in the same pink tweed as the Queen’s coat. Trimmed with a delicate looped bow on the side, the overall effect is both angular and soft. It’s unusual, but I think it works. What do you think?

Princess Akiko in Turkey

Princess Akiko of Mikasa has been travelling in Turkey this week, carrying on the Turkish-Japanese relationships cultivated by her father, the late Prince Tomohito. Yesterday, she visited the Buklukale archaeological site in Kirikkale. For this outdoor event, Princess Akiko sported a tan floppy hat trimmed in a bright pink band around the crown. I suppose it’s a rather touristy hat but I thought it was cute. What do you think?

Birthday of Princess Benedikte

Royal Hats

Princess Benedikte of Denmark is celebrating a milestone birthday today. As the younger sister of Queen Margrethe, we don’t see Princess Benedikte at many royal events but when we do, she is hard to miss. Her hat style is vibrant, textured and full of personality. To offer our own congratulations for her 70th birthday today, here is a look back at some of her colourful hats.

I appreciate Princess Benedikte’s bold and colourful hat style and the adventurous way she is not afraid to try modern, structured shapes. In the over-60 royal crowd, her hats are among my favourites (the red wool stacked beret above is utterly fantastic!). What do you think of Princess Benedikte’s millinery wardrobe?

Queen Elizabeth Visits Welsh Equine Hospital

This morning, Queen Elizabeth paid a visit to Cotts Farm Equine Hospital, the only equine hospital in Wales. For this visit, she repeated her vibrant two-toned electric blue stovepipe hat. With its molded crown, contrasting turquoise stripe round the brim and whimsical blue and turquoise yarn trim around the crown, this hat packs a lot of visual punch. On anyone else, it would probably look like it had escaped from the circus. But on Her Majesty, it just works. What do you think of this megga watt hat?

Danish Visit to China: Day 5

Queen Margethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark concluded their trip to China today with a busy schedule that included a Danish-Chinese Innovation and Investment Seminar, a Mayor’s lunch, a press conference and a sail down the Huangpu River. For this busy program, Queen Margrethe repeated her natural straw hat trimmed with a wide green band around the crown. After a fantastic run of hats this tour, I think this is a rather dull one to end with. I suppose it is, however, more exciting than Margrethe’s dress and jacket.

Danish Visit to China: Day 4

Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark enjoyed a busy day of engagements in the Zhejiang and Jiangsu Provinces of China yesterday. For the first time so far this tour, Queen Margrethe wore a hat she had previously worn before- her turquoise blue porkpie hat with curved brim. It remains a great hat for her and I especially love the two-toned turquoise band around the crown. Queen Margrethe’s hats so far on this tour have been quite good, haven’t they?
