Romanian Princesses Host Garden Party

We do not hear much from the Romanian royals (they keep a rather low profile in the royal world) but this week, Crown Princess Margarita hosted a Garden Party at Elisabetha Palace in Bucharest. She wore an interesting mint green picture hat with wide, diagonal brim trimmed in lace appliqué by Kristina Dragomir. The hat was further trimmed with a spray of yellow and white flowers and feathers on the side. I am intrigued by the off centre crown and oval, instead of circular, brim because we don’t often see royal hats with oval brims. The colour also looks great on Margarita.

Crown Princess Margarita’s youngest sister, Princess Maria, also was in attendance. She wore a pale blue picture hat with a curved, upturned brim edged in grey straw with a spray of blue and white feathers on the side. Paired with a blue suit and pearls, the outfit was just right for a garden party. That is, if I can overlook the slightly mismatched shades of blue (I’m not sure that I can). What do you think of these sorbet hued hats in Romania?

  1. In the picture Princess Maria’s hat and dress are not “slightly mismatched”: they are full-out clashing. That hat could look nice with an appropriate colored outfit.
Although Princess Margareta’s green hat looks as though it’s shifted in the wind, it’s intriguing but perhaps too exaggerated.

  2. The mismatched blue outfit doesn’t work. The hat colour is also too ‘cool’ – she needs something warmer – something more like the shade of her jacket!

  3. I am loving this big, unusually shaped hat on the Crown Princess, I think I have seen her in this colour before and it really suits her. The whole outfit looks well coordinated. I too am struggling with the mismatch in colours on her sister however.

  4. Nice to see some of the other royals. I love the colour mint green. The outfit does look just fine for a garden party. The mixed blue colours do not work but there again the hat works for a garden party. Interesting to see these pictures.
