One Hat, Seven Frocks

Royal Hats During King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima’s recent trip to Denmark and Germany, Máxima repeated her large grey felt hat with ‘slice’ diagonally folded brim designed by Fabienne Delvigne. We have seen this hat five times, each time worn with a different ensemble. Which outfit do you think works best with this hat?

  1. Oh, I like No 2 best. I don’t usually like one sleeve, but what is on that dress is so draped, I do not see it as a ‘sleeve’, but rather ‘draping’. I love how the blue bounces into the grey and the hat looks terrific with her orange top/dress.

    • I agree with you completely! #6 dress is downright ugly and #2 looks like she lost a sleeve. #4 looks like the designer kept running out of fabric when he made the dress and had to piece odds and ends together. I like the orange in #5 but it’s quite loud. #3 is very elegant and I love how her dress matches the lining on her coat.

  2. #4 and #5 are my favorites because I love the color combos and her low side chignon hairstyle, which compliments this hat so well.

  3. All the outfits look stylish. It proves what a versatile design it is. My favourite has to be the orange – it makes her glow. I’m envious of her lovely gloves too especially ones the last photo. Yum!

  4. I love this hat and obviously the Queen does too as she has worn it so much. It is one of my favourite hats. I like it best with Photo 5, the orange and grey is a great combination. Next choice is photo 3, because I love the coat and dress, but I think the Queen looks best adding some brighter colours. Next comes photo 1, because I love the lilac colour, but the neckline is at an odd place, showing her clavicles. Next comes photo 4, because I think the fit of this dress isn’t good, and the gray, brown and khaki green colour blocking isn’t a success to my taste. Next is photo 2, the grey draped sheath dress, because the grey hat plus grey dress is a drab look, and I don’t like the one sleeve only. My least favourite is Photo 6, because as Janae says: March 30, 2015 at 2:31 pm, I also cannot unsee the back of that dress!

  5. I love her in almost everything – she is so stunning. But, I think the first photo was my least favorite, and I think it’s because of the neck line of her sweater top. The other photos show her with a higher neck line and that appeases my comfort zone for some reason.

  6. This spectacular and obviously versatile hat looks good with the more traditional outfits as well as with the somewhat bizarre #4 and #6. Although I prefer some of the dresses to others, the hat coordinates beautifully with all of them and is an asset to each one. Queen Máxima’s purchasing this hat was an excellent investment!

    • So true! I hadn’t noticed that before and I must say I like it, especially with the lilac top for the wedding. This is a gorgeous soft hue for Maxima and makes the hat seem even more sumptuous and soft. Lovely.

  7. I love the hat with her orange top and gray skirt. Actually, I think she looks great in all of them because of her sunny smile. She radiates happiness and that always makes a woman attractive no matter what she wears on her head or body.

  8. I love number five, especially since it has orange in it. She wears it often and well. It could be a difficult clour, but Maxima makes it work. It is a great hat.

    • HA! The back of dress #6 ruins it for me and I can’t un-see it! #4 is such a great dress on Max so its my pick for best ‘every day’ but I LOVE the sequin tunic in #1. Perfect outfit for a fall wedding and it’s my pick for ‘best overall’

  9. Credit where it’s due, she gets her money’s worth! I like these hats and this one is no exception – my favourite is the Orange and grey, that’s a fab colour combo.

  10. #5 and #6 are both very chic. There is enough contrast in color and texture to have some interest. While a one color ensembles are Max’s go-to. I really like the color block style of dressing
