Royal Wedding in Monaco

Royal Hats The civil wedding ceremony of Pierre Caisraghi and longtime girlfriend Beatrice Borromeo took place on Saturday in Monaco. For the event, which was followed by an informal picnic for 700 guests hosted by Prince Albert and Princess Charlene in the Palace gardens, Beatrice wore a dusty pink v-necked, empire waisted gown by Valentino. The bodice of the dress was covered in gold lace which was also used to make mid length, floaty sleeves and trim the bottom of the skirt. Beatrice completed the look with a small headband of fresh flowers.

While an outdoor wedding with picnic is the perfect wedding to wear a hat, the only member of Pierre’s family to do so was his sister Charlotte. She topped her orange printed dress with a simple white straw picture hat trimmed with a wide sash around the base of the brim which trailed off the back of the hat.

For the formal dinner hosted by Princess Caroline Saturday evening at the Hotel de Paris, Beatrice wore a second Valentino design in luminescent grey and white silk organza (see her arrival on video here). The sparkling clouds hand embroidered and beaded on the skirt made for a rather dreamy ensemble that on any other day, would have likely been a twinge just too literal.

The happy couple will celebrate their religious wedding on August 1 on one of the Borromean Islands on Lake Maggiore in the bride’s native Italy (when one’s family owns some islands, it is a logical place to have a wedding). After these two Valentino couture pieces for her civil nuptials, I can only imagine Beatrice’s next dress will be spectacular.

  1. I wasn’t thrilled with either of Beatrice’s dresses, and the first looked a bit too much like a nightie. The floral head-dress was unoriginal. I was so looking forward to seeing all the hats at the post-wedding picnic, but to my dismay, it was a hat famine! Pierre’s sister Charlotte looked a bit too informally decked out for a noble, royal-relative wedding. Her orange printed dress was more like a beach dress with its sleeveless design, and although I would have worn her simple white straw picture hat trimmed with a wide sash around the base of the brim to the beach or a pool party, it didn’t feel like a wedding hat to me.

  2. I love her bouquet and the flowers in her hair, but somehow the dress just doesn’t cut it – too much like a nightie in some ways. But what would I suggest, given that she was attending a garden ‘picnic’ immediately afterwards? And the answer is, I don’t know. I believe she was right to wear a long dress, much more elegant, but it doesn’t veer into hippie territory (there’s a hint, but that’s all) which would have been easy to do. I think she pulls it off. I’m ambivalent about the white gown too, don’t like the ‘clouds’ and writing, seems a bit twee. The style is very nice though.

  3. I loved both gowns, the first was so feminine and delicate, it showed her beautiful face and figure, the 2nd, that was stunning of what i saw, purely a gorgeous gown. She is one very beautiful lady, very feminine and delicate looking. So looking forward to the wedding gown, so far CPV of Sweden had the very best gown of all brides in the scene of European royalty.

  4. The pink does not seem outstanding but is nice. The white with the clouds seems similar to what the Swedish crown princess wore recently.

  5. I’m not 100% sure on the pink number. It just doesn’t feel that special to me. The white cloudy number though is gorgeous – she looks amazing in it, I love it. Hope we get a good look at her religious dress this weekend…

  6. She is beautiful, and she looked positively angelic in those dresses. They make a lovely couple, and may they have many years of happiness ahead of them them. I have long admired these two and am glad they are finally married! I do appreciate that they took their time, but this day seemed as though it would never get here. There is nothing like a nice royal wedding in the summer, especially with a photogenic bride and groom.
