Princess Beatrix Re-Opens Rescue Museum

Princess Beatrix was in Den Helde today to officially re-open of the National Lifeboat Museum Dorus Rijkers. She used the occasion to début a new hat in sky blue and white straw. With a square crown wrapped in two-toned double bands, the hat received further graphic punch from a stripe of white straw around the brim, placed to appear as a second stacked brim. The sharp and graphic lines of this piece are softened by the colour, which is so very pretty on the Dutch princess. We’ve seen Beatrix in hats this shape before although the contrasting colour is a new twist. It’s a good twist, don’t you agree?

  1. Great hat on Princess Beatrix! Smaller than her large bumper shaped hats and the contrasting colors really set it off nicely. She looks wonderful!

  2. Princess Beatrix’s hat is one of her best in this general shape, and being blue it doesn’t look so much like an iced cake as many of her other hats do!

  3. I like this shade of blue on Princess Beatrix and the contrasting white is a welcome addition. This is one of her best sartorial recent appearances.

  4. I quite like this hat. Not only is it a beautiful color (combination), but the shape is a little different from Princess Beatrix’s standard. Well done.

  5. As you said, the shape is nothing out of the ordinary for Beatrix, but the colors and details are a nice change and quite flattering for her.

  6. I like your sentence “We’ve seen Beatrix in hats this shape before…” as it seems to me that she basically wears only one hat shape. There is certainly no offence intended but she seems to have found the hat shape she likes and decided to wear nothing else (I think).
Now I have to say I like the colours of this particular hat. This tone of blue is lovely and pairing it with white is successful.

    • I agree with you 100% I would add that she seems to be a ‘fun” person, also. There was a picture of her last week, along with two other beautifully hatted women, looking like she was really enjoying herself.
