Luxembourg Royals Celebrate Octave

On Sunday, members of the Luxembourg royal family attended annual celebrations around the closing of the Octave of Our Lady of Luxembourg. While not as well attended as in past years, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and Heredity Grand Duchess Stéphanie both attended the event. The Grand Duchess wore a streamlined pillbox hat covered in black silk. While the hat is very simple, it worked beautifully with her colour blocked dress and coat and Maria Teresa looked great.

Princess Stéphanie topped her taupe and silver brocade coat in a taupe straw percher hat. The beret-based piece is trimmed with a large double bow and there appears to be metallic threads woven in the straw, giving it a subtle bit of shimmer. It’s a sweet hat that I think would have been much improved if Stéphanie had worn it a little higher up on her head. As placed here, it looks milliseconds away from falling off.

Some of you might be interested to note that the brilliant girls over at Luxarazzi recognized this hat as the same one worn by Princess Tessy to this event back in 2012 (with the slight rearrangement of the bow tail on the left!). I think Tessy’s placement of this piece was much more successful.

  1. I agree with everything Jake says: May 3, 2016 at 12:40 pm and May 3, 2016 at 12:41 pm. These Royal ladies made good clothing and hat choices.

  2. Maria Teresa looks wonderful in her color-blocked outfit, and the choice of colors is excellent! The pillbox is very nice with this ensemble, but it kinda gets lost unfortunately.

The only thing I have to complain about Stéphanie is the placement of the cocktail hat; I agree that it looks like it’s about to fall off. Fix that, and we would have one of her best hat/outfit ensembles ever! Beautiful coat and the simple turquoise dress underneath is a fantastic complementary color.
