Princess Beatrix Visits Slovakia

Princess Beatrix was in Bratislava yesterday to officially hand over Presidency of the European Union Council from the Netherlands to Slovakia. For her meeting with Slovak President Andrej Kiska at the presidential palace, she repeated a lilac straw hat with wide brim. The linear lines of this hat’s crown, hat band and flat, cuffed brim create a design that contrasts against the softness of Beatrix’s ruffled jacket and the two pieces work well together.

In the afternoon, she opened the exhibition ‘European Stars: Mir and Cobra’ at the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum. For this, she changed into a deep purple bumper hat wrapped in a layer of lighter purple fishnet tulle. We’ve seen Beatrix in another tulle wrapped design- a feature that gives such interesting texture to a hat- and I think this iteration in purple works well. I’m just not certain about the bull’s eye button on the top of the crown.

It’s always nice to see Princess Beatrix out and about. What did you think of her hats yesterday in Slovakia?

  1. She looks exceptionally well in both hats! I especially like the contrast of the light purple one with her soft ruffles.

  2. Glad to see a brimmed hat on Beatrix again; this lilac one is great for her. I also love the new purple hat with the netting; the details make a big difference. Also, she matched her eye shadow to both of these hats! Brava Beatrix! Don’t remain a stranger. 😉

  3. I like this new bumper more than the usual. The color is great, and the fishnet adds some interesting texture.

  4. I love both hats! The bumper hat is to be expected, but I really like the textural component of the tulle. The lilac hat was a refreshing change. Both hats and outfits in shades of purple!

  5. I actually like the stack-of-plates look of the darker purple bumper. The fishnet tulle is a nice addition. Considering the restrictions Princess Beatrix probably puts on her milliners, this is a slightly different version of her standard.
The lilac straw is a nice hat.

  6. Yet another stack of plates hat on this second look today — I don’t look the look from above on this, but I do think she looks good always from the front in this large style bumper hat.
