Hat From the Past

Royal Hats to this day in 1965, a visit to Canada and a young Empress Farah of Iran in a hat made from the most interesting transparent material (crin, I think) embroidered with diamonds.

  1. MrFitzroy was reading the blog too early this morning…before that second cup of coffee. When HatQueen said the hat was embroidered with diamonds (the shape) ….I assumed it to be DIAMONDS (the gem) –this is the Shahbanou after all — and couldn’t figure out why the hat didn’t have any sparkle, while simultaneously thinking a DIAMOND covered hat was a bit much for day wear, Then the second cup of coffee kicked in….well, at least MrFitzroy had a good giggle to start the day, thank you HatQueen!….Happy weekend ahead to you all!

  2. The Shahbanou is elegant as always, and only 21 years old in 1959.
As others have pointed out, the Shah was married to second wife Soraya until 1958.

  3. Similar shape to the hat we saw Paola wear in the previous flashback post. Farah looks good in this too; sad we never got to see her in more wide-brimmed hats because I think they flatter her. Also, the 1955 is slip of the finger typo; Getty has is correct as 1965.

    • The other people in the photos are Govenor General Georges and Madame Pauline Vanier who were the Vice Regal Couple from 1959 to 1967, so the date is wrong. I had the honour of seeing them when I was in elementary school many many years ago. The Empress looks very chic.
