Hat From the Past

Royal Hats to this day in 1983 and a young Princess of Wales in a small hat with double bumper, dotted veil and bow. The collaboration between John Boyd’s hat and Catherine Walker’s coat is a great one (especially for the 1980s).

  1. Queen Sonja attended the opening of the 65th Bergen International Festival on May 24 in a gold hat. I can’t find any photos on getty and if I try links from others the post goes into moderation.

  2. I was never a fan of some of these Princess Di looks in the early 80s – I was a tailered gal myself and didn’t care for her fu-fu looks and all those puffy sleeves.

      • It was raining hard, and my then-small daughter was on my husband’s shoulders. I think she may have been the attraction in her bright yellow slicker. My husband, whose eyes were like saucers, said to Diana, “We are so sorry about the rain.” And she replied “Oh, never mind.” He was forever smitten. Her complexion was perfection and her eyes sparkled. She truly was lovely.

  3. No mistaking this for any other time than he early 80s. But you can see the start of her emergence can’t you. It’s sleeker, better tailored and she looks more at ease. This was fab for the time, and was just a taste of what was to come for Diana I think.
