Imperial Royals Attend Tree Festival

On Sunday, Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako attended the 41st National Tree Growing Festival in Mannō where the couple viewed and tended trees planted by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko in 1988. This appearance marked Princess Masako’s return to this event for the first time in 14 years and for it, she wore a midnight blue velvet hat with rounded crown, upfolded Bretton brim and wide hatband in the same royal blue as her coat.

Princess Masako wears dark shades of blue so well and the balance of shades between the hat and coat work beautifully here. It’s not the most exciting of hat shapes but considering its age (at least 23 years), it’s faring fashion trends fairly well.

  1. Yes, Masako really does wear these saturated jewel tones well. And I agree, she and Naruhito always look so wonderful when they’re out together. P.S. nice to see Naruhito in a three-piece suit.

  2. yes, this is wonderful…quite a snazzy change from the more sombre types the Princess usually wears. Sumptuous is spot on Glitter Girl. Crown Prince Naruhito always looks so proud to be out and about with his wife. I like that.

  3. This is such a sumptuous colour on the Crown Princess. And her elegant hairstyle makes the whole ensemble look fresh. It’s just so lovely to see her looking happier.
