Day 1 of Cheltenham Festival

Zara Phillips Tindall was spotted enjoying the Cheltenham Festival today. For the first day of the festival, which included Mike Tindall’s horse Monbeg Dude run in one of the races, Zara wore a wonderful new hat. Described by the designer as a “high top hat in velour fur felt trimmed with waffle veiling and two curled quills”, this hybrid cap/cloche was fantastic on Zara. She looks great in navy and the creative, modern shape and trimmings on this hat made for a very striking look.

Designer: Rosie Olivia. It is the Boldo style. Coat designed by Paul Costelloe.

  1. I love all the hat and the rest of what she has on too. I would be happy to wear any of these items.

  2. Zara looks stunning from head to toe and I would like to closet raid everything she is wearing. This hat has a unique and interesting shape that suits her well.

  3. It is a very cute hat that brings something interesting to her outfit! After the discussion we had yesterday on Kate’s collection of quite similar small hats, I think this particular hat is a fabulous example of how a hat can be small AND creative. 🙂 Good choice!

  4. I only think this hat looks good when viewed from the side in the second photo. If this had a wider brim all the way around, then I would declare it a winner; but as it is, there are just too many odd angles and contradictions to make this a good hat. I love the trimming, but not for a cap style (which I think would be a great style for Zara). I do love her coat with the high collar buttoned up though! Interested to see what the rest of Cheltenham will bring . . .

  5. I always enjoy seeing Zara. She appears to be the most relaxed and care free of all the Royals, along with her brother and sister-in-law – maybe it’s because of where she falls in the line of secession (I’m sorry if this is the wrong word). She’s a very athletic young mother and wears clothes that she feels comfortable wearing. More power to her. The outfit and hat she wore to the Cheltenham Festival suited her, and I rather liked her hat.

    • You said it perfectly, this suit a young modern lady and that is what she is besides being a mom, wife and career woman, this hat says Zara. Yet for me I don’t like this hat because I am not a modern young lady, I am more in the line of ole ladies who love hats with flowers, large brims, sometimes feathers and veils, yet it suits her well.

  6. I disagree with most of the comments.
The hat has interesting lines, but I think the scale of the hat is too small and in comparison makes her face and the rest of her look bigger.

  7. This is a great look for her. It’s young, it’s fun, it’s really super cute. I love that it looks different from the front and the side.

  8. I have SO missed Zara and her fearless hats. If we broke down royals by age group, her style would win in the 20-40 age category. No contest.

  9. Zara is always adventurous with her hats and sometimes does not quite pull it off – but this time I think is a winner! Not many poeple could look as good as this in this hat… well done!

    • I agree with what Barbara says: March 10, 2015 at 5:05 pm. I love Zara’s hat and her entire outfit, but not everyone could pull this look off!
