On Saturday, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde visited St. Rumbold’s Cathedral in Mechelen to take part in an installation mass for new Archbishop Jozef De Kesel. For the event, Queen Mathilde repeated a calot hat with domed, pointed crown wrapped with flying ribbon tails around the bottom curve. The textured black fabric covering this hat has small dimples that lend a subtle sparkle and lovely texture to the piece. I have always liked this piece from the front (where it looks like a pillbox hat worn on the back of Mathilde’s head) but the pointed shape combined with it’s odd pairing on this occasion with a burgundy coat and indigo accessories make it a miss for me.

I have just seen some other pictures, and the belt and gloves really are very blue – have a look at http://princessmonarchy.eklablog.com/ – scroll for some very clear pictures.
I would like this hat without the pointy tip, and if it was paired with black accessories, not indigo
I like it.
Elegant as always!
Very elegant! On my monitor the “indigo” appears as if it may be a case of lighting/textures causing mismatched blacks. I agree it’s very odd if they are indeed blue.
I quite like this look
Very nice
I like the hat itself, and with the burgundy coat as well. The queen has tied it in nicely with her black accessories, and, I think, looks very well.
