Belgian Monarchs Attend Mass in Mechelen

On Saturday, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde visited St. Rumbold’s Cathedral in Mechelen to take part in an installation mass for new Archbishop Jozef De Kesel. For the event, Queen Mathilde repeated a calot hat with domed, pointed crown wrapped with flying ribbon tails around the bottom curve. The textured black fabric covering this hat has small dimples that lend a subtle sparkle and lovely texture to the piece. I have always liked this piece from the front (where it looks like a pillbox hat worn on the back of Mathilde’s head) but the pointed shape combined with it’s odd pairing on this occasion with a burgundy coat and indigo accessories make it a miss for me.

  1. Very elegant! On my monitor the “indigo” appears as if it may be a case of lighting/textures causing mismatched blacks. I agree it’s very odd if they are indeed blue.
